Seoul Shoes Industry and Seong-Su-Dong

1920~1920 years

In that period, many shoes stores crowded around Seoul station which is near Yeom-Cheon Bridge and then shoes industry started.

1925 Gyeong-Seong station..when Seoul station constructed, there has a place to store cargo.

As time passed, leathers were started to traffic in something

So that repair-shoe stores started to appear with merchants.

After liberation, shoes stores were opened which is made from US armies’ used military shoes to remake as a men’s dress shoes.

We called Myeong-Dong where is a center of finance and economic.

Myeong-Dong’s Salong shoes and tailor shop is for entertainer, chaebol, etc include high class’s episode it started to get a popularity.

There were a lots of stores where making western suits.

1980s when the period civil servant payment was 350,000won in a month, high skilled technician’s payment was 120,0000won in a month.

It was almost like a major company’s payment a year.

 1990~present

If Myeong Dong is a center of salon shoes

In Seoul city, KumHo-Dong was a place where crowded shoe industry.

Almost end of the 1960 when KumKang product industry settled in KumHo-Dong, a variety of subcontract industries were also settled.

But in 1997, due to foreign exchange crisis, KumKang production head office moved to BuPyeong. And many Kumkang’s following companies scattered around to KumHo-Dong.

Many shoe stores crowded in SeongSu-Dong because there was near from Kumkang head office. Esquire, Elcanto production stores were also near in SeongNam. Through these reasons YeongDeungPo, NamRi-Dong etc many shoe stores were closed, but only in SeongSu-Song shoe industries were crowded, leather and accessory and subsidiary materials etc shoe material productions were increasing.

From 1920, SeongSu-Dong also really works well until now.

To offer shoes in rational price for customers, SeongSu-Dong should continue to work well.

Hope to be a mecca of shoes in Korea.
